CREATING A SKINCARE ROUTINE

By Cat Tatman of Intelligent Elixirs

When it comes to maintaining healthy skin, having a consistent routine is paramount. Daily routines will certainly vary by individual depending on their skins needs, concerns and how much of a regimen they want to follow…BUT there are some BASICS that everyone should practice; Cleansing, Moisturizing & SPF Protection. If you have aging skin and concerns such as fine lines, hyperpigmentation or hormonal breakouts you can add a few steps to address these issues.

BASIC ROUTINE

CleanseAM / PM
Washing your face removes excess oil, dirt and debris from your skin to improve the overall appearance, keep pores cleaner and help with absorption of other products.

Moisturize - AM / PM
When skin is dehydrated fine lines and hyperpigmentation are more visible. Additionally, dry skin can cause irritation, which can contribute to breakouts. Moisturizing daily will improve moisture balance and curb the visible signs of aging, reduce breakouts and of course keep your skin soft and supple.

SPF Protection - AM
Wearing a broad spectrum SPF daily will protect your skin from the biggest contributor to premature aging, the SUN! The majority of damage from the sun comes from our daily life, walking to the car, walking the dog, driving and so on. This damage is cumulative so we need to protect our skin everyday.

As we age our skins restorative functions naturally slow down, this is known as intrinsic aging. There are also extrinsic factors like sun, pollution and lifestyle that cause inflammation and oxidative stress that further break down and damage our skin. Mitigate these stressors and improve skins health and overall appearance by adding a few products to your daily routine to Protect & Promote Collagen and help improve Cellular Turnover.

Protect & Promote CollagenAM
Adding a topical Vitamin C Serum to your regimen will help promote, protect and repair collagen. Collagen is 80% of our dermis; it’s the ‘infrastructure’ of our skin. Healthy, abundant collagen creates firmer skin and a more youthful complexion. And BONUS, Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, natural skin brightener and also an anti-inflammatory, which can help soothe and prevent the inflammation associated with breakouts.

Promote Cellular TurnoverPM
Add a retinol/retinol-like product to your routine to promote cellular turnover. This process will help your skin shed dead cells and replace it with newer, healthier cells, ultimately improving skins texture and firmness.
